Recycling is an important disposal method adopted by Council, it ensures that there is minimal waste going into landfills. The two forms of recycling in Inverell Shire are fortnightly kerbside recycling collection which occurs in Inverell, Delungra and Ashford. Recycling crates are provided at majority of the rural landfills and all property owners are encourage to utilise this service. All recycling is collected at the Materials Recycling Facility located in Burtenshaw Road, Inverell and Northaven employees are responsible for the sorting and resale of materials that are recovered. Current materials accepted by the recycling centre include: glass bottles and jars, aluminium and steel cans including empty paint tins, all plastics including plastic bags and plastic car parts, milk bottles and cartons, phone books, egg cartons, pizza boxes (clean), cardboard, magazines, newspaper and general paper. Other recycling materials which are accepted at the Inverell Landfill include all steel products, waste oil, car batteries, fluorescent tubes, printer cartridges and electronic wastes. DRUM MUSTER Drum Muster is an important service provided by Council for property owners who use chemicals. Drum Muster compounds have been established at the landfills located at Delungra, Bannockburn, Graman and Ashford. The Materials Recycling Facility situated at Inverell accepts chemical drums during normal business hours. CHEMICAL COLLECTION An annual chemical collection day is provided normally in August of each year where any resident is entitled to dispose of all types of chemical, poisons, paint, oil, batteries and gas cylinders. All these materials are then transported off the site to a suitable disposal centre. Council carries out advertising prior to the collection day through the radio and newspaper.
